Back in time cultists had worshipped things called Demonoids - Demons that look like eyes

The Demonoids are under the manipulation of a larger entity who's name is unknown

cultists had sacrificed mages and sorcerers to the Demonoids thinking it of a tribute. 

But The Demonoids had not known this and thought that these mages were threating them.
